Karaman, Turkey- 9th to 13th December 2019
The first LTT activity took place in Karaman, Turkey, and the topic of this activity was Spiritual Health. On the first day, participants presented their schools, regions and countries. Moreover, there were presentations on the results of the first questionnaire about factors influencing students’ life styles, causes for their bad results, lack of concentration, disengagement in school and why some
of the students want to leave school at an early age. The second questionnaire was on spiritual health and participants talked about the factors that damage this health dimension, the things that can be done to normalize and maintain people’s spiritual health.
Participants took part in challenging workshops and debates on Spiritual Health. Marbling art is a method used to relieve stress in Turkey. Students were trained in the art of marbling. Dance is one of the best ways for students to relax their spiritual structures and maintain a spiritual health. For this purpose, participants tried Zumba dance in the school gym using it as a way to relax.
Another way to relax is to travel and go trekking. For this purpose, students were taken to the region of Cappadocia. Here, the ways of how to relieve the spiritual structure of the students were taught by going trekking in cultural and historical places. Since the Middle Ages, Sema dance method has been used in Anatolia to relieve people’s spiritual health. Participants visited Mevlana Museum from Konya learning interesting things about the Turkish culture.
Anxiety is one of the most important causes that harm our spiritual health. Breathing exercises are the best method to reduce the level of the anxiety and that’s why a workshop was held on how to do breathing exercises.
During the last day of our LTT activity, participants worked on a common presentation about how to care about Spiritual Health including suggested activities, examples and conclusions. Students presented their experience they gained during the days they spent in Karaman.
