Malaga, Spain 14th-19th of March, 2022
Emotional Health
The fifth mobility took place between 14th and 18th March 2022 in "Los Olivos" school in Malaga, Spain. Participants talked about Emotional Health. This mobility was attended physically by all participating countries. The mobility was based on 5 clues to boost the emotional health, for each day of the week: Meeting New People, Mindfulness and Meditation, Discovering New Places, Taking Care of our Self-Esteem and Sports and Outdoor Activities.
The first day started with the welcome ceremony, principal's speech and artistic performances. Students were split up in six teams and worked for the whole week, so they could get to know new partners and work with them. A management meeting was organised to discuss about all the plans for the week. Working in international groups on different activities strengthened the teams and let them know each other better. A lot of movement, conversations, questions and answers, collaborative job, were involved in these activities as a way of working on the emotional health and develop the emotional intelligence. Every school showed the rest of us the presentations on Emotional Health they had prepared before coming to this mobility. The day ended with a lecture from a specialist on the topic.
The second was focused on Mindfulness and Meditation as a great way of taking care of people’s emotional health. Participants worked with Gerardo Gómez, a coach specialized in this technique. Teachers and students learnt new ways of improving the emotional intelligence. The day continued with a visit to the "Museo de Málaga" where participants could learn about the greatness of sharing with different cultures and backgrounds.
An educational trip was organised on the third day to Ronda. It was a day full of adventures, discovering a new place, working outdoors to put together all the pieces important to build participants’ emotional health. All these were ingredients to discover new ways of boosting the emotional health. It helped developing participants’ personal, social and emotional skills.
The importance of social media in student's life is a fact nowadays in all our countries. Considering this, a full working day was dedicated to develop in all the group (students and teachers) a different kind of conscience about the use and effects of social media in emotional health, dealing with matters such as self-esteem, relationships, addictions, mental and physical health. Students were involved in debates, sharing their views, agreeing and disagreeing with some of the proposed ideas.
Emotional health is closely linked to the physical health, to movement, sports and outdoor activities. Last day focussed on games, sports, team work, a bit of competition and friendship. All these boosted emotional health. Last day was a great one, reaching its top with the farewell dinner, the handing over of the certificates of attendance, creating links among our schools, our countries and all the individuals who participated in it.
Emotional health is a dynamic state that fluctuates frequently with your other six dimensions of wellness. Being emotionally well is typically defined as possessing the ability to feel and express human emotions such as happiness, sadness and anger. It means having the ability to love and be loved and achieving a sense of fulfilment in life. Emotional wellness encompasses optimism, self-esteem, self- acceptance and the ability to share feelings.
Emotional health is about the persons mood or general emotional state. It is our ability to recognise and express feelings adequately. It relates to your self-esteem as well as your ability control your emotions to maintain a realistic perspective on situations. The relationship between emotional and mental health is clear and as such some illnesses relate to both, such as: depression and anxiety.
